01Who we are
The app “Deer Score: AI Antler Scoring” (the App) is developed and published by Chengmai Qingzhou Xinghe Network Technology Co., Ltd. (澄迈轻舟星河网络科技有限公司, “we”, “us”), under the SailingLab brand. We are responsible for the processing of personal information described in this policy.
The App estimates a deer’s antler score in the style of the Boone and Crockett scoring system from photos you take or choose. It works with our server, which stores your account, photos and scores.

02Summary
- You sign in with your Google account. We receive your Google account ID, e-mail address and name.
- Photos you score are stored in our private cloud storage in the United States and are sent to an AI service (Google Gemini, or xAI Grok as a backup) to estimate the score.
- Posts you share to the feed are public. The big-buck map shows only totals and averages, never single bucks.
- Using your photos to improve our scoring models, and counting your private bucks on the map, are both off unless you turn them on.
- We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the App is used, and Firebase Crashlytics to find and fix crashes.
- Subscriptions are processed by Google Play. We never receive your card details.
- You can delete your account in the App at any time.
03Information we process
Account information
The App requires an account, and you sign in with Google. When you do, Google gives us your Google account ID, your e-mail address and your name. We store the account ID and e-mail address, and we create a username from your first name (or your name, if no first name is available). Your username is shown with any post you share to the feed. Your e-mail address is never shown to other users.
Photos you score
When you take a photo with your camera app or choose one with Android’s photo picker, the App prepares it on your device: it turns it upright, resizes it (to at most 1,920 pixels on the long side) and re-encodes it as a new JPEG. Re-encoding removes all EXIF metadata, including any GPS location, the camera model and the time the photo was taken.
The prepared photo is then uploaded directly to our private Amazon Web Services (AWS) S3 storage in the United States (region us-east-1). Our server sends it to an AI model to analyze the antlers — Google Gemini, or xAI Grok if Gemini fails. The model also notes what the photo shows, such as a harvested deer or a mount, and whether it carries advertising; this decides whether the buck can appear on the leaderboard. We keep your photos so that your results and history can be shown in the App.
Scores and measurements
For each buck we store the AI analysis (for example, whether it is a deer, the species, photo quality, the tines found and an estimated age class), the point count you confirm, the estimated measurements and score range, any measurements you correct, and — if you enter them — a score you already know and the measurements you record in tape mode.
Public posts and community activity
If you share a buck to the feed, we store your post: the score it belongs to, the US state you pick (optional), a county if you choose one (optional), and your caption (optional). We also store the likes you give, the reports you send (what you reported and why) and the users you block.
Purchase information
When you subscribe, Google Play processes the payment. The App sends our server the purchase token, and our server checks it with Google Play. We store the product, the purchase token, the subscription status and its expiry date, so we can unlock Pro on your account. We do not receive your name, card number or billing address from Google Play.
Usage and device information
Through Google Firebase Analytics we collect pseudonymous usage information such as: sign-ins, which screens you open, how many photos you submit and whether a deer was found, the point count and class of finished scores, corrections you make to the point count, the features you use (such as sharing, posting, the leaderboard and the map), whether you start or complete a subscription, your plan and the home state you chose. Firebase also collects standard information such as app version, device model, operating system version, language, approximate location derived from your IP address (country/region level), app-instance identifiers and, where available, your device’s advertising ID. We do not send your photos, e-mail address or name to Firebase, and we do not link analytics data to your account.
Crash reports
If the App crashes, Firebase Crashlytics sends us a report so we can fix the problem. It includes the error and where in the code it happened, the App version, device model, operating system version, a random installation identifier, and the recent App events that led to the crash. It doesn't include your photos or your name.
Technical logs
Like most online services, our server records technical logs of requests it receives, such as IP address, time, the request made and the response. We use them to keep the service secure and to fix problems.
Support messages
If you e-mail us, we receive your e-mail address and whatever you choose to include. We use it only to answer you.
04App permissions
| Permission | Why we ask |
|---|---|
| Camera | The App does not ask for camera permission. When you tap Take a photo, your phone’s own camera app takes the photo and hands it to the App. |
| Photos | The App uses Android’s photo picker, so it can only see the photos you choose. It does not ask for access to your storage or photo library. |
| Internet | To sign in, upload and score photos, load the feed and map, verify purchases and record analytics. |
| Google Play Billing | To let you buy and manage a Pro subscription. |
| Advertising ID | Declared by Firebase Analytics, which may read it for analytics measurement. The App does not show ads. |
The App does not ask for your location. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads on most Android devices).
05How we use information
- To provide the App — signing you in, scoring your photos, showing your results and history, running the feed and the map, and unlocking Pro after a purchase.
- To enforce the free plan — counting how many photo scores you have used.
- To keep the community safe — reviewing reports, hiding blocked users’ posts from you, and removing content that breaks our Terms of Use.
- To improve the App — understanding which features are used and where problems occur, and measuring how accurate our estimates are.
- To support you — replying to messages and handling refunds.
- To keep the App secure and comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your photos to train or improve AI models unless you opt in. That choice is off by default, and you can withdraw it at any time.
Where the EU/UK GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of a contract (providing the App and Pro features), our legitimate interests (analytics, security, moderation and improving the App), and your consent (sharing statistics from private bucks and using photos to improve models). You may withdraw consent at any time.
06Third-party services
We share information only with service providers that help us run the App. Each processes data under its own privacy policy:
| Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Google Sign-In | Signing in with your Google account — Privacy Policy |
| Amazon Web Services | Our server, database and photo storage (EC2 and S3, United States) — Privacy Notice |
| Google Gemini API | Analyzing your photos to estimate the score — API Terms and Privacy Policy |
| xAI API (Grok) | Backup photo analysis when Gemini is unavailable — Privacy Policy |
| Google Firebase | Analytics and crash reports — Privacy & Security |
| Google Play Billing | Payments and subscriptions — Privacy Policy |
Only the photos and the details needed for the analysis (such as the point count you confirm) are sent to Google Gemini or xAI — not your name, e-mail address or account ID.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or users’ safety, or as part of a merger or acquisition, in which case this policy will continue to apply.
07Sharing and your choices
- Private by default. Your scores and photos are visible only to you unless you tap Share to the feed on a result.
- Public posts. A shared post is public: anyone can see it. It shows your username with most of its letters hidden, the first photo of the buck, its estimated score, class and range, the state you picked, your caption and the number of likes. It never shows a precise location. A public buck can also appear on the season leaderboard, which shows that hidden name, the state and the score. To remove a post, delete that buck in the App, e-mail us, or delete your account.
- The big-buck map. The map shows only the number of bucks and their average estimated score per state or county — never single bucks, photos or names. A state appears only once at least 3 bucks there count, and a county only once at least 10 do, so no one’s spot can be found. The map counts bucks shared to the feed and, if you turn on Share anonymous statistics in your profile, your private bucks that have a state. That switch is off by default.
- Improving our models. Using your photos and measurements to improve our scoring models requires your separate consent, which is off by default.
- Report and block. You can report any post, and block any user so that their posts no longer appear in your feed. The blocked user is not told.
08Retention and security
We keep your account, photos and scores for as long as your account exists, so your history stays available. When you delete your account, we delete them as described in Deleting your account. Analytics data is kept in pseudonymous form for no longer than 14 months. Technical logs are kept for a limited time for security and troubleshooting. Support e-mails are kept as long as needed to resolve your request and meet legal obligations. Purchase records are kept as long as needed for accounting and legal obligations, and by Google Play according to its policies.
The App talks to our server only over encrypted HTTPS connections. Photos are uploaded straight to a private S3 bucket that blocks all public access and is encrypted at rest; photos in public posts are shown through temporary links that expire. Sign-in tokens are stored on our server only in hashed form, and the App excludes your session from device backups. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
09Deleting your account
You can delete your account in the App: open the You tab, tap Delete account and data, and confirm.
- Right away: your e-mail address, Google account ID and username are removed, your sign-in sessions on all devices are revoked, and your public posts are hidden from the feed. Your bucks drop out of the map at its next hourly update.
- Within 30 days: your scores, measurements and photos are permanently deleted from our server and storage.
- Subscriptions: deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. Cancel it in Google Play (Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions).
If you can no longer use the App, e-mail sailinggalaxytech@gmail.com from the address you signed in with, and we will delete your account for you. We may keep limited records where the law requires it, such as purchase records.
10International transfers
Our server, database and photo storage are in the United States. Our service providers may process information in other countries, and our team, based in China, may access information to operate and support the App. Where required, these transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
11Your rights
Depending on where you live — for example under the EU/UK GDPR or US state privacy laws such as California’s — you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, to receive a copy of it, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We do not sell or share your personal information for targeted advertising.
You can delete your account and turn Share anonymous statistics on or off in the App. For any other request, e-mail sailinggalaxytech@gmail.com from the address you signed in with; we will respond within the time required by law.
12Children
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
13Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the App or the law changes. We will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top. Significant changes will also be announced in the App where appropriate.
